Feeling crafty? You can make items to donate to the shelter!

We understand that there are many people who want to help in a hands on way but cannot make it out to our shelter to volunteer or are too young to do so. Here are some great projects that allow you to make something small that makes a big difference to our shelter cats and dogs! These projects are some ideas of things you can make at home and bring in to donate to enrich the lives of our shelter animals.

Ping Pong Ball Cat Toys

What you will need:
  • Regular ping pong balls/table tennis balls
  • Sharpie or other permanent markers
Directions:
Just decorate the ping pong balls by using the permanent markers to draw designs or write short notes to our cats! Ping pong balls are easy toys for kids (and adults) to make for the cats to enjoy!

Fleece Cage Pom Poms

What you will  need:
  • Fleece fabric (any color or design)
  • Scissors
Directions:
Cut the fleece into 2 different sized strips, some 6 to 9 inches long and some longer pieces 20-24 inches long. Make the small strips into a star like shape in layers and use the long strip to tie around the short strips to make a pom pom at one end. Leave the long piece in tact and will use it to tie to the inside of the bars of the cat cages so the pom pom end will hand down into their cage and provide lots of fun for our cats and kittens!

Beds for animals

Picture
What you will need:
  • Old or new blankets
  • Scissors to cut beds to size and a way to measure fabric
  • Sewing machine or needle and thread
  • You will have to have knowledge on how to sew to do this project
Directions:
We can use blankets sewn the following sizes: cat blankets 18 inches x 15 inches, dog blankets 2 feet x 4 feet
How to make these beds: Sew edges of blankets so they do not fray and if there is stuffing material in between the layers of fabric then it can be helpful to sew another seam about 2 inches in from the edge or sew an “x” across the blanket to keep the stuffing from bunching up when washed.
