FAQ

How can I help Chippewa Humane?
There are so many ways you can help Chippewa Humane!

  • Looking for a new pet? The best way you can help Chippewa Humane is to find your next animal friend with us. Not only does this support your local community, it gives an animal a chance at a new wonderful life! You can never go wrong with adopting a shelter pet.
  • Make a donation! Visit our Donation page to learn all the different ways you can contribute.
  • Volunteer at events! You can find out what upcoming events you can help with by visiting our Events page.

What should I do if I find a stray?
  • Contact your local municipality, because not all townships contract with Chippewa Humane.
  • You can also call us to find out who you should contact in your township.
  • Post the found animal on Lost Dogs/Cats of Wisconsin. Also, post on Lost Animal pages on Facebook.

What should I do if I lost my pet?
  • Set out smelly food (canned wet food or tuna) with their bed/litter box and anything else that smells like home.
  • Fill out our Lost Pet Form: https://form.jotform.com/251364893960063
  • Contact Chippewa Humane: [email protected]
  • Contact your local municipality
  • Post on Facebook and Craigslist lost/found. Lost Dogs/Cats of Wisconsin is also good to report to for lost pets.

What steps do I need to take to reclaim an animal at your facility?
  • Call and set up a time to pick up your animal.
  • We charge a $40 a day fee plus, $40 each day the pet is here.
  • Provide proof of your animal's rabies vaccination.
  • If your pet does not have a current rabies vaccination, or proof of the vaccine, we require you to call a vet clinic and prepay for an appointment to get the rabies vaccination done.
  • Wisconsin stray Hold Law: In Wisconsin, the stray hold period for animals, according to Wisconsin Statute 173.21, is five days, including the day of intake. After this period, ownership transfers to the animal shelter, and the animal can be made available for adoption.
